Where we stand

The Anti-Cancel Culture Policy

A player’s personal beliefs are their own business. How they treat people here is ours. We will not ban anyone from our platform for what they say or how they behave off-platform simply because an angry crowd asked us to, with only one exception: serious crime.

The understanding

Your personal beliefs are not our business.

OPLeague is a place to play games. It is not a church, a party, or a political movement, and our platform does not ask what you think about any particular issue before it lets you into a bracket.

As a brand, we do not support concepts like racism on our platform, and we do not endorse the personal views of anybody who plays here. However, we also do not police people for what they say or do off-platform, in general.

What a player says in their own life, on their own accounts, in the privacy of their own homes, among their own people, is theirs. No matter how controversial. No matter if some embarrassing phone call or video is leaked that would cause a public fervor.

We will never banish anyone from this league for their beliefs alone, regardless of how the Overton window shifts left or right over time, and we will not do it simply because an angry mob asks us to — no matter how angry they are.

That holds whichever direction the pressure comes from. A pile-on is not evidence, and the number of people asking has never made a thing true.

The line

Belief is yours. Conduct here is ours.

Here is how and where we draw the line, to be as clear as possible.

Not our business

What your personal beliefs are in your personal life. What you say somewhere else. Who you vote for, pray to, or argue with online. An old post somebody has dug up. What a crowd has decided you are.

Our business

How you treat other people in this league. Abuse of another member, in a match, in a message, or on your page here. Anything unlawful. Anything that breaks the Terms of Service you agreed to, or the league rules.

The difference is not what you think, but who you are doing it to, under what context, where, and how.

Holding a view nobody likes is not a violation. Aiming it at another league member while using this platform is.

Your player page is published by us, so it must obey the law and the Terms.

The only exceptions

Serious crimes, harmful actions, or the promotion of such are not mere beliefs.

There is one thing we will remove somebody for, even though it happened somewhere else, and it is worth stating before anybody has to ask.

Egregious crime. Such as, above all, harming a child in any way, shape, or form, or the promotion thereof.

Though, that is just one example, not the whole list. We take each crime, whether credibly suspected or officially convicted in a court of law, very seriously, on a case-by-case basis.

A parking ticket

For example, will we ban you for getting a parking ticket? Absolutely not. It’s technically a crime, but almost anyone who drives for long enough can get those.

A DUI

However, would we ban you for a DUI, driving while under the influence? Almost certainly.

And why? Because we protect family here.

This is a family-friendly brand, built primarily with busy, family-oriented adults who want to make passive income with their gaming in mind.

In contrast, people who drink and drive show no regard for the honest, hard-working family man driving home from work that they may crash into, or the innocent mother taking her children to school, or the hopeful teenager just learning how to drive with their whole lives still ahead of them.

People who drink and drive destroy families.

And do not even get us started on crimes involving the sexual abuse of children, or the promotion of such behavior.

We do not care how big your social media following is, or how much money you make our brand indirectly by how popular or famous you are or become: we will ban you without mercy, regardless of the potential financial loss to us, and never think twice, if we find out that any of our gamers, under any circumstances, are abusing their personal branding power to groom children, or if they transgress against children in any way, shape, or form — even if the crime is performed off-platform. Or even if they publish an opinion that promotes the harm of children, such as, but not limited to, the so-called “minor-attracted persons” social groups.

There is neither politicking nor any philosophical technicality that will save the person from being banned.

Even if they have a prior conviction involving the harm of children that gets brought to our attention. We do not background check every gamer, but the moment anything like a prior criminal conviction or lawsuit is brought to our attention?

We, at OPLeague, maintain a passionate no-mercy, zero-tolerance policy. No matter how profitable an asset the gamer may or may not otherwise be for our brand.

This sits alongside the rule about minors in the league rules, which covers conduct here rather than elsewhere. Both exist for the same reason: fans can be as young as 13, and every pro-gamer on this site is an adult with an audience.

Honestly

What we can actually promise

We would rather say this out loud than quietly break it later.

OPLeague does not stand alone. Money reaches a player through a payment company, this site sits on somebody else's servers, and sponsors choose who they appear beside. Those companies have their own rules, they are not ours, and they do not need our agreement.

So the promise is about what we control: our own decision. We will not be the ones who fold. If somebody above us in the chain forces a change, we will tell you it happened and we will say who did it, rather than pretending it was our idea.

If it happens

How a complaint is handled

  1. 01

A complaint about what somebody believes gets read and closed, unless it pertains to the abuse of children. A complaint about how somebody treated another member gets looked into.

  2. 02

If we act, the player hears it from us first, with the reason, and it is the conduct that gets named, never the belief. If we do not act, we are not obliged to explain ourselves to whoever complained.
